Welcome to The City of Parma Web Site. All friends of Parma are invited to post a message in our public Guest Book. We are very interested to know if you attended school at Parma. And if you are a graduate of the Parma High School, please also tell us the year you graduated. Let's have fun, but remember to keep it clean and free of flaming. Guest Book Archives: 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 Name: Donald Nelson Comments: Thank you Sue for that walk down memory lane. There is a 16 year old inside me looking through 71 year old eyes, memories become more dear to me as time passes and especially when I learn that a friend and school mate has been called home to the Lord. Bill Tom Knight rightly named Parma Oz, because inside all of us is that magical place that will remain with us for life. Parma will always be home no matter it's present or future condition and I will return each year as long as I am able. Don Name: Merick Comments: It's great to see this website. I just wanted to say hello, to all that know me. Email: tigertomsport@yahoo.com Name: Sue Parkman Comments: Each year when we return for Home Town Days I see Thelma still looking healthy and strong like she did many years ago. Her mother and my mother in law Mrs. Era Parkman were very good friends for many years, as we all went to General Baptist Church together. Of course Dr. Husted and Dr. Gilbert kept the town healthy when we were children back in the 30's-40's. They didn't deliver me but they cared for me later when I played outside in cold weather and developed respiratory problems. My great aunt Dora Calvin delivered me for $5.00 which was a lot of money in 1936. Doc also sewed up Tom's eyelid and head when a big truck tire he was working on blew back into his face. He didn't have far to go with the station just across the street from the Dr. office. We lived in front of the Methodist Church when I was in the first grade and at that time I knew every person on that street by name and everyone treated each other like family. All the kids played outside under the street lights at night until Mothers started the night call to come home. Those were the Good Ole Days when times were hard. No TV or violence to worry your parents about. Progress isn't always good in some ways. I am thankful for my birthplace and the many friends both young and old that were looking out for me as a young child. And how could we ever forget Mrs. Crites..."hey little girl come talk a minute" and it wound up the whole afternoon. Good memories, happy memories and some sad ones too when we return and the houses are shells of what they once were because the lives that touched ours are no longer calling to us. Oh but the memories still remain and for that I am deeply thankful. Our youth today have missed out on a great era in America and I have to share my part of the blame. I grew up and moved on but have never forgotten my roots. Parma my birthplace but Loves Park Illinois my home for 42 years. Thanks for the beautiful beginning in 1936-1966. I will return.
Comments: Many of you can remember Thelma, Dr. Husted's Nurse. I don't know how many people have told me she was the first one to give them a spanking (when she and my Dad - Dr. Husted) made the delivery. Today we celebrated her 86th birthday. She is still doing very well driving all over, mowing her yard, etc. Here is a photo of her birthday. Name: Sharon Hansen Comments: After signing in a couple of days ago, I have just heard from Nancy Crain (Stokes now)who was my best friend when I was growing up in Parma, and Ann Ogle who was Patsy Crain's best friend. I've been taking a trip down memory lane by reading all of the e-mails and I have so many wonderful memories of growing up in Parma. Name: lowell (L. However, my grandparents lived across from the high school for many, many years. They were Roger and Addie Morgan. My mother was Hassie (Perkins) Morgan. Some of you might remember my cousin, Sherry Jo Chamberlain, daughter of Rod and Sylvie (Morgan) Chamberlain. Sherry and I used to walk down to Opal's store with my brother, Monte, and visit with Gene and Gertie. After my grandfather passed away, Glendle and Flossie Beard used to take care of my Granny Morgan. Does anyone know if they are still around? Would appreciate any information one might have about any of the Morgan family, both then and now. Thank you. ginger_conoley@yahoo.com Name: Sharon Hansen Comments: My maiden name was Sharon Chamberlain. Rod and Sylvia were my parents. My grandparents were William and Iona Chamberlain and Roger and Addie Morgan. My mother has passed away and my father is very ill and is in the hospital in Cape Girardeau. I am now living in Costa Mesa CA which is between Los Angeles and San Diego. I try to visit Parma every time I visit my parents who live in Dexter. I didn't realize there was a website for Parma but I will visit the site often now. My e-mail address is Sharon_hansen@emcorgroup.com. Name: Paul Ford Comments: Kent, It was so nice to see your comments on here. If I have everything right, your mother was my teacher for english in HS. I just loved her. She was the nicest lady I think I ever knew, and your dad was a great guy also. My dad had insurance with him for many many years. We only lived a block away from your mom and dad and always found them to be just wonderful. I am not sure if you will remember me or not but Willie Ford was my father and you might know my older sister more than me. Most of my family had nicknames i.e. Bug, Punkin, Pig, and Little Boy. Again it was nice hearing how your doing.
Name: George Husted Comments:
Attached is a photograph I took last year in Ted Morgan's garden. He is
standing in his garden beside his corn. The average heights of the
stalks are 12 - 15 feet. The tallest (measured) was 18 feet tall. The name
of the corn is either "Hickory King" or "Hickory cane". He believes the
real name is "Hickory King". He received the seeds from Wayne McKinzie. It
is open pollinating corn and is usually planted in early May for the best
results. In front of him are his okra plants. Ted certainly has reason to
be very pleased with his beautiful garden, right here in Parma.
Name: Kent Leigh Comments: To all my friends and family in Parma. I owe you all a sincere apology for my lack of staying in touch. I owe a debt of gratitude to all of you who help create within me a heartland attitude that has helped me in every aspect of my daily life. I currently live in Vacaville, California. I have been here for thirty years now and will likely remain for the next . . . years. . .lol. . . . I own and operate my own satellite communications field service company. The expression, ". . . the world is my oyster", couldn't be more descriptive of how I live and work. My work takes me from numerous western pacific locations to European, Nordic and African locales. Work is fun, never boring and usually always aboard cruise ships or oil rigs. I look forward to getting back and staying in touch from this point on. It's been much tooooooo long since the last time I was home. It is neat to query the net and see a really cool Parma, Missouri web site. You guys did good. Warmest regards, Kent Name: M. A. Hart Comments: Thanks for posting the obituary of Eloise (Myrick) Hart who passed away Mar 3, 2008 in Dexter, MO. She was born in Parma and graduated in the class of 1948. In recent years we attended several of the Down Home Days in which she always visiting with relatives and friends. We missed the one last year because of the illness she had. Her husband, M. A. Hart Name: George Husted Comments: Yes! we got SNOW! Friday It was just light snow till about noon then it started to come down, I mean really come down. And by 10 p.m. we had between 5 and 6 inches. We had a meeting to go to in Dexter that evening and on the way back at 10 p.m. the "Hunterville" road was packed with 3" of packed snow, not plowed. Really poor for driving faster than 30 MPH. However, Saturday morning the snow was still very light and deep in places. Right outside our door was a bank about two feet deep, just right to dip a bowl in and get it full of light snow to make snow Icecream. It was really good just like when I was a kid back in the 30's and 40's. Name: Paul Ford Comments: Well I don't know about Parma but it is snowing to beat the band here in Paragould today. I would like to thank all the good people of Parma that paid their respects to my father, Willie Ford, at his passing. I would appreciate it when Parma has a clean up day for the grave yard to let me know. The Parma grave yard has always been such a beautiful place and so peaceful. So thanks to all of our friends from Parma. Name: Ann Lindsey Ogle Comments: My dad, the late Ewell Lindsey; was adopted by Charles and Mary Lindsey. His given name was R. Ewell Warfield. Dad has been gone many years, but I'd like any information about his biological family. I have learned that both his parents died during the influenza epidemic when he was an infant. Name: Candy Irwin Comments: Thanks to Sue and George who commented about my Grandfather David Hendrix. I didn't know that he drove the school bus, too. I am going to to try to make it to Home Town Days this year to hopefully meet many of you and find out more about what else you remember about my family from there. My Grandparent's children included Lula, my Mother, John, Mary, Earlene and Thomas who died in WWII. There may have been more kids but that's all I remember. Thanks again! Can't wait til July! Candy Name: Sue Parkman Comments: To the young lady speaking of her grandfather Hendricks. Most everyone in Parma knew Bro. Dave Hendricks as he live a long life there. I was once a neighbor of his and remember one time he called upon me to come across the street to witness the marriage ceremony of an older gentleman and lady. I will never for get his statement which would normally go something like this. "For as long as ye both shall live". Well Bro. Dave didn't say the expected line and instead said this " For as long as it lasts". I was about to explode with laughter but held my piece. He also drove a school bus for many years as well. I haven't lived in Parma since 1966 but have many fond memories and return each July for the Home Town Days. If you have not been before please mark your calendar and make an effort to join us. Hope to meet you there. Sue Name: John W. Adams Comments: I'm still on my quest for information about my family. Both of these people touched our life in many ways. We have very fond memories of both of them. Willie and my family went back many years. Mrs. Garrard shared her musical talents with the community and was called upon regularly to sing. She sang with so much feeling and touched many hearts with her song. Parma has lost a big asset in their passing but all of us could learn from their serving spirit. Hard shoes to fill but we should keep trying. Name: George G. He was a life long resident of Parma and made his living as a brick layer. He raised 7 kids and was married to my mother Elouise Allen, she passed away April 22, 1991. I also wanted to say thank you to all of you in town who was always nice to my father. Many years after he retired from brick laying he would mow yards and pick up cans for something to do and a little extra cash. He often told me of his friends who would save their cans and give them to him. Such a simple act, but demonstrated great kindness. Dad was 84 years old, he went very peacefully with family by his side. His arrangements will be, Watkinson & Son's funeral home with visitation Tuesday night 22nd. The funeral will be Wed the 23rd at 1:00 P.M. I sure will miss him. My great grandpa has been gone a long time. I remember spending the long summer months on his farm just outside of town. The best part was the barn loft filled full of loose hay where my siblings, cousins and I would play all day long - only to face a cold bath in a washtub on the back porch. Grandpa had a special treat fo me; he would hitch up the wagon and pull into a vacant field where we would play cowboys and indians. Although he was a poor man, he was also a good man - I tell my son about the time I spent at Grandpa's farm. I sure miss him. I can only hope I came to be the man my great grandfather was. Name: Sue Rodgers Parkman Jerry, My sister Bonnie Rodgers Miller would have gradutated with the class of 48 and would like a copy of the picture you mentioned having of their first grade class. Our father was transferred to Canalou and that is where Bonnie graduated. She now lives at 308 Edmondson,Sikeston,Mo.63801. She will send you a check if you let her know the cost. Thanks Sue Rodgers Parkman Name: Diana Murdock (Brayshaw) Comments: My step-mother, Lula May, took my younger brother and I to her dad's in Parma. We went ahead of my dad and twin brothers. I believe it was 1964. I didn't stay there but a few months. I remember the cotton mill, railroad tracks, and the roller skating rink. I did love to go roller skating. While attending school there, I joined the band and learned to play the saxophone. I tried eating frog, "coon", and rabbit that Grandpa Catron had hunted and prepared himself. He took me frog hunting one time. I also remember he chewed tobacco and had that awful spit can. YUK! All in all, for the short time I lived there, it was an experience I will never forget. Name: John W. Adams Comments: I was born in Parma in 1951, delivered by Dr. Husted in our home. He was the son of Thomas and Elma Warren and lived in Parma for most of his childhood and high school years. I would like to inform all interested parties of his passing on December 14, 2007 in Marion, IL. You can read his obituary at www.wilsonmcreynolds.com. I know that he had fond memories of many people in Parma and would want them to be informed of his passing. I apologize for not writing a post here sooner, but I just learned of this site's existence. Thank you, Derl Warren II, Linn, MO Name: George Husted Comments: Julie Andrews turns 69 - To commemorate her 69th birthday on October 1, actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was "My Favorite Things" from the legendary movie "Sound Of Music." I know you remember! Here are the lyrics she used: Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting, Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings, Bundles of magazines tied up in string, These are a few of my favorite things. Cadillacs and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses, Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses, Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings, These are a few of my favorite things. When the pipes leak, When the bones creak, When the knees go bad, I simply remember my favorite things, And then I don't feel so bad. Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions, No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions, Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring, These are a few of my favorite things. Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin', Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin', And we won't mention our short, shrunken frames, When we remember our favorite things.> When the joints ache, When the hips break, When the eyes grow dim, Then I remember the great life I've had, And then I don't feel so bad. Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted over four minutes and repeated encores. Please share Ms. Andrews' clever wit and humor with others who would appreciate it. Name: Carolyn Henry Comments: How really neat to read your comments to each other. Sounds like Parma was a really great place to grow up. Life long friendships were formed. I hope to attend your Down Home Days Picnic this July. I was hoping to find information about Bud Henry. Name: Carla (Sapp) Kutyba Comments: Just wanted to drop a line to say hello to all the fine people of "Parma, Missouri" and far and wide cause we are schattered everywhere. Hoping that each and everyone has had a Great and Wonderful Christmas Day and I hope that everyone will have a Happy Great New Year. May the love and joy of the holiday seasons for always be in our hearts. For family is our treasures and our friends are our riches. Someone mentioned in one of these messages that we are not blood kin, but we are all like family, well I'm with her on that. Happy belated birthday to Daryl and Carol Ramsey. I'm waiting for someone to take over and write stories about Parma the way the Tin Man use to do. His stories was always great to read to me, because it would give more back ground history of Parma long ago which I also consider part of the roots of growing up in "Parma, Missouri" right along with my familys back ground history. To those who think Parma never did anything for them, well I'm sorry you feel that way. It has done a lot for you and I pray one day you will see the light of it inside your heart. Like I said before what would it be like if all of us that grew up and moved off would move back and help to rebuild our home town. But anyway it's like the TIN MAN said you might see boarded up windows, but the light inside your heart lets you bring the boarded up building or place to life with all the memories. Teeters grandaugther said it she doesn't see a empty lot she still sees her grandparents house and the trees and the things they did around the homestead. It's the good teaching of our elders and the lessons that were instilled into our hearts. God Bless everyone. Carla (Sapp) Kutyba PS. Main reason for this message is to ask for prayer for my husband, David Lillard, who will be undergoing surgery Thursday, Dec. 13, for stomach cancer. Thanks to all of you who have already responded with your notes of caring, praying, and encouragement. It is very comforting to know so many friends, church family, home schooling association, etc., are praying for my husband and offering their help. Thanks to all of you. Name: Paul Ford Just wanted to tell everyone I hope you and your family no matter where you are, a very Merry Christmas. I would love to see more people post comments on this web site. It would be fun to see how many people could sign this before Christmas and tell where they are be it Parma, Malden, New Madrid, or off far away some where. Maybe we should have a contest to see who is lives the farthest away, and who has lived in Parma the longest. Just a thought. Try not to spend to much money on presents. A good web site to visit is www.daveramsey.com if you are needing advice on getting out of debt. It is free and is really a wonderful help. The Parma Team will be ringing the bells again on Christmas eve, Monday, December 23rd. We already have the required 16 people to staff both doors, two for each door, for two hours each. I always enjoy this, to me it is an opportunity to wish hundreds of shoppers "Merry Christmas"! I believe everyone has a great time. If you would like to be on the team some time in the future, just let me know. George G. Husted (used to be Jerry) Name: JoEmma Greenwood Morgan My granddaughter Amanda and I were in Parma this past week-end to visit my uncle Wayne McKenzie. Driving down the streets brought back many memories. Parma in the 50's was a wonderful and happy place. I am thankful I have those memories. We also visited with Larry and Geneva Gee in Malden. Lots of fun and good food. Larry can sure make some good chili. Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. God bless. Name: Paul Ford I just wanted to let everyone know we had to put my dad Willie Ford in a nursing home a few weeks back. He is in the Malden Nursing Home. Many of you know him as a former brick layer. After he retired from brick work he started mowing yards for some of the older residents of Parma. Many times they would pay him a couple of dollars or a home made pie for the job. He made a sport out of picking up cans. I always thought that was a lot of effort for no more money you could get out of them. However, he always said it gave him something to do. Many of his friends and neighbors would save their cans and give them to him. After several months he would take them in and sometimes make a few hundred dollars. It can be said my father never had much money but always had many friends, he was much richer than many people I know. He suffers from the later stages of Alzheimer's and his body is finally starting to give in to his age. I just wanted to say thank you to thosee of you who have been his friend and been so king to him. Parma really is a great place even if it doesn't have a Wal-Mart. Thanks again. Name: Jim Allen Patricia Barton to get to the St. Louis Post Dispatch type in your address field, STLToday.com. On the left side menu go to deaths and obits. Jim Allen Name: Patricia Barton It might have helped to have had the name of a funeral home site, I have not been able to reach the obit section of the St. Louis Dispatch. So, I want to send my condolences out to Charley's family--step children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We all grew up together in Parma and were like family, brothers and sisters. To lose one of our classmates is very much like losing a member of our own family. Charley had fought a battle with lung cancer for at least a couple of years, he is no longer suffering and is finally at peace. God bless those he left behind. A friend Name: Jim Allen The St. Louis Post Dispatch has an on-line guest book in their obit section where you can leave messages and condolences, Jim Allen Name: Donald Nelson Anyone have an address to send Sympathy to Bud's family? So many of our old friends are passing away. That is why I will continue to come to Down Home Days, it seems it is there that I see them for the last time. Name: Jim Allen Charley Forest "Bud" Henry died today, 10/09/07. He had many friends at Parma, and had a great time at the picnic this year. I am sure he will be missed by many. Jim Allen Name: Tom Love I may not see much of any of you this cotton vaction. Just had open heart surgery 8 days ago and I think all the cotton will be out before I am ready to pick. Only one by-pass, 90% restriction. Not your typical blockage or heart disease. Heart is in great shape, other arteries fine. Caused by a defect in the artery. It had an unusually sharp S curve in it, and blood flow apparently has been slowed down in this curve for years, causing build up. Had not been for this curve, would likely never had severe blockage. Like the old S curve down south of Parma, you could only take it so fast before something had to give. Doing great, no pain pills required so far, amazing what they can do, as those of you that have been through this know. Dr. said I would feel better when I recovered from all this. I said "I hope not, I would be delerious if I felt any better than before". No pain , no symptoms before. You folks ever have the slightest sign of a problem , get yourself checked out or you will miss out on a cottonpickin season as I have. Name: Dennis Brayshaw I stayed with my Dad's second wife's sister and their father, the Catron family. Helen and Grandpa, who owned a junk yard right next to the home, were very nice to us. Today I think Doris Catron lives in Parma, next to Grandpa's house. We would go 'coon huntin', and once we treed a bobcat. We would go skating at the roller skating center near the house and we would walk the railroad tracks into town where we would play pool and the pinball machines, we would drink Nehi's. In the evenings we would watch Porter Wagner with Grandpa and he would chaw some tobacco. We attended school breifly. I got in a fight in class and was sent home for a day.... Dad couldn't find any work so we had to move south. Today Lula Mae, Helen, Grandpa, Frank, and Dad have all passed away. Lula Mae's sons have also passed on, Tony and Tom Eiceman. Life is so short a time, here today, gone tomorrow. Name: George (Jerry) Husted Dear Classmates of '48, Next year, at the Down Home Days 2008, will be the 60th year to celebrate our class of '48 graduation. I know I didn't graduate here at PHS but I went through the first 8 years here and I did graduate in '48. One time I was invited to the class reunion and certainly enjoyed the time and fellowship. Now would be the time to start thinking about whether to have a reunion, if so, where and when. I have a photograph of our class in the first grade and will be glad to give each of you one at the reunion, if we have one. Sincerely yours, George (Jerry) Husted Name: betty shockley Attended Gray Ridge Elementry School. Is school still there? Live on a farm in a rural area, close to Sikeston MO. Name: Tray Fleming I moved from Parma in 1989 to Florida. I was seeing if anyone remembers me. I was just a child when I left. My grandfather Harold Fleming still lives there. And ya'll might remember my Dad Hal Fleming. Although he past away a few years ago he used to enjoy coming up for the weekend visiting his friends. I try to come up as much as I can. But since Im in the Military I cant always make it up as much as I would like to. Well if anyone remembers me You can contact me though stewartfan992003@yahoo Name: Gene Miller Would love to hear from anyone that I knew or went to school with in Parma. I hardly get around there anymore, but would like to catch up with anyone around during the 70's and 80's. My parents still live in Parma, along with other relatives nearby. Name: Paul Ford Thanks for removing the comments by concerned citizen. This has been a great web site for making contacts of old friends and even finding relatives. Two years ago I was able to conect with a cousin I didn't even know. It provides a vehicle for former classmates to reconect and more. This should not be a place to hang dirty laundry whether it is false or correct. There is a place to make/file a formal compliant about things going on in Parma. So again thanks for cleaning up the negative comments. Name: Randall Ramsey MAYOR George-- I would like for you to take the above message off of the website. I have checked on this and their is no basis of fact whatsoever for the charges. All it is doing is causing me and the Police Chief to answer a lot of silly questions. In other words it is nothing but a bunch of trash caused by a couple of drug users. Name: Walton Wilson I couldn't believe my eyes 3 years back when I found this website. I moved from Parma in 1956 when I was in the 9th grade. After finding this site, I was able to correspond with Alice Ward, Ginder Douglass, and Norma Lape--all my classmates. I hated moving from Parma, but we moved close to Paragould and I graduated from Greene County Tech. I remember the great times we had on band trips with Mr. Allen. During the past year, due to my "mother board' being burned, I kinda lost interest in the internet and didn't replace it, but now I have a new computer and am ready to relive some old times. I love reading all the stories about picking and chopping cotton. I guess most of us didn't like it, but I guess it gave us a good work ethic. I am now retired and living in a small town just south of Dallas. All my immediate family are gone, but I am blessed with many good Texas friends. I can remember back in the late 80's, my brother Bobby was a very sick man, but wanted to make one last trip to Parma where he and I grew up. He was in pain, but really enjoyed the trip. He died 2 weeks later. Enough of this sad stuff, anyone who remembers me please contact. My e-mail addr is Walthwilson@aol.com Name: deanna kay (crews)linley Hello everyone,my name is deanna,my grandparents were John and Dorothy Teeters,my mom just told me about this site, she is Sonnie Teeters,I stayed in Parma with my grandparents most of the time, even after my mom and me moved to the big city of sikeston,at least untill my grandparents passed away,I still drive down to Parma on occasion and drive by a vacant lot that was home to me for so long, but i dont see the emptiness,I see a big grey house, with a huge garden, tons of fruit trees, and an old out house in the back, where grandpa kept the dog food for his many beagle hounds,I see Eloise Ford walking across the road to come see me and grandma,i was deenie to her and willie,I remember playing under her big weeping willow tree in her yard, and me her and grandma scrapeing together enough money for me to go to ramseys store and get a box of ice creams to split,i remember paul ford, little boy ford,i remember eddie bell, mrs.bell, and there children, but most of all i remember feeling safe, and knowing everyone, and loveing that little town, and i miss it more than words can express, and i think this site was a wonderfull idea, and if anyone would like to e meil me that remembers me,my e mail is linleymade@yahoo.com,may god bless u all. Name: Sandra Teeters Chrystal, It is so nice to hear from you. I haven't seen you since your first child was an infant, quite a long time, especially since the time I saw you before that you were in pigtails. Your Mom and I were as Gert use to say inseperable when we were in school and for a long time after that. My first child is named after her, and I guess I will love her as a sister, no, closer than a sister, for as long as I live. My fondest memories of Parma all include Nancy. I saw that Toshia had her first child, seems only yesterday Nancy was having her, much to my chagrin I was at her house when she went into premature labor, I never want to go through that again. It is so good to hear from you and to hear all about you kids, I know Little David has children too, just don't know how many. thank you so much for writing to me,tell Grandma Nancy (still sounds strange to me ) that I still love her like a sis and I think about her often, especially December 19. God Bless you baby girl . Sonnie Name: Christal (Long) Austin Sandra, I read your comment and noticed you had mentioned Nancy. That is my mom. She is still living in Parma and stays busy babysitting my 2 kids and Toshia's baby girl. She is such a wonderful grandmother. If you would like to get in touch with her please let me know how to contact you (email or phone) and I will give you her phone number. Name: Sandra Teeters Mills What a surprise to find somewhere that brings such warm and yet sad feelings as this site. How great it is to see comments from so many people from my past life, even though everything about my present life seems so completely inundated with all things pertaining to Parma. Is it not strange that so many people, even though we were actually so few, could forever be connected by something as simple as a hometown. I suppose you have to hail from a place like Parma to understand the lasting love you can feel for people who are not really blood relatives, but will be forever FAMILY in your heart. Nancy, Francie, Phyllis, Barbie, Kathy, just to name a few, I think of you often, and I am so grateful to Mr. Husted for having the incite to realize all of us true Parma people would enjoy so much having someway to tell our life long friends , We miss you and love all you guys. God bless you all, Sonnie Teeters Name: JoEmma Greenwood Morgan Could someone please give me an up-date on Mary Melton and Carolyn Vieth? I loved going to see my grandparents and spending time in Parma. Picking beans & strawberries from their big garden, walking up to the little store and buying penny candy. My grandmother was "grandma" to all of the little kids on her street. I loved listening to my grandpa talking on his CB aka "Silver Top" and listening to the Cardinals on the radio in the front room. I remember Mr. & Mrs. Ford living accross the street and going over to visit with them. They are great memories that I like to share with my son. God Bless your little town. She had a great time and said it was a very big crowd this year. Sorry, I couldn't be there due to neck surgery. Maybe next year. I'm glad people are still returning for the reunions, and proud of the folks who put this thing together every year. James Brown, I agree with your comments and can't understand why some former Parma citizens have no interest in attending. I'm sure Bill Tom was missed by all. I still enjoy looking at some of the pictures he sent me. None of us know when it will be "our" last visit. If anyone has bad feelings about someone, they need to talk and forgive one another. That's the Christian way! Wishing God's best in good health and good memories to all. Name: LEO E. MATTHEWS THE DOWN HOME DAYS WEEKEND WAS FANTASTIC. It was so much fun talking about good ole days of growning up. All I can say if you were not there you might got talked about. Hopefully, we will be looking at doing a 35 year reunion, (did I say 35 yrs?). Name: Kathy Duncan I attended first grade in Parma. My name was Kathy Moser. My aunt and uncle were Frank and Hattie Edge and they had a cafe in Risco. My grandpa was John Moser and my grandmother was Pauline Moser and they farmed on Hwy 153 in the s curve. Many of my early childhood years were spent in Parma. My dad graduated from Parma and his name is Herman Leroy Moser and my Mothers name is Pauline. Her maiden name was Edge. Those who know her best call her Polly. Parma looks a lot different now. Vacant buildings that were once occupied by thriving businesses. Parma still has some of the best farmland in the country. I walked and chopped those bean fields when I was a little girl. God Bless all those farmers in Parma, Missouri. Name: Tom Parkman I am planning to be at the Home Town Days this month. I think I have only missed one since it started and that was last year when I was recuperating from a couple surgeries. I am still kicking but just not has high. It is always great to renew friendships and make a few new ones each year. Parma people always throw a good party and it is important we support all their efforts. Thanks ole friends for keeping the ball rolling each year. Name: JAMES(JIM)BROWN Have not seen many comments from the Class of 1956 about attending. If the Good Lord is willing and the creek don't rise (translated) that means if money is available, I plan on being there, now that we finally have the date. I recall talking to Bill Tom via telephone a year or so before he passed away. Bill Tom had gotten irrtated (pissed off) at someone or something and would not attend. Some of you, due to him feeling like that never saw him again. Being irritated with someone or something is fine, but do it between the Downhome Days every year! Some of us may not be around the next year. Car accidents, and other things. I, personally am looking forward to this event as I do every year. I have a brother, two sisters, and two cousins that refuse to attend; due to the fact "there is nothing there for me". I can't convince them their "roots" are there. Sounds like "denial" to me. But then, I have more important things to be concerned about. Still trying to figure out if in fact, I might be the Daddy of the daughter of Anne Nicole Smith. I've "come to", "woke up" in some unusual places. I'll keep working on that. Name: Larry Crain Looking forward to seeing everyone who can make it again this year. Carl Class of 1977 Name: Sue Rodgers Parkman Our sympathies to the Crain family on the passing of Norma McBride. I am sure she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Reading the obituary of Mrs. McBride brougnt back lots of memories of my childhood. She had formerly been married to Huey Kitchens and lived in the Methodist Parsonage across the street from our family at the time of Huey''s death. Though I was young at the time I remember the shock and fear that I felt from that knowledge. Strange how some things impact your memory and create feelings you don't even know you have until they well up when you least expect. One of those strange but true stories. There are many of those connected with our lives in Parma. I think that is why there are so many that return each year in July. IF ANYONE KNOWS HIS WHERE-ABOUTS, PLEASE LEAVE A NOTE ON THE WEB. I GRADUATED WITH HIM FROM PARMA HIGH SCHOOL IN 1951. THANKS FOR ANY KIND OF INFO. Leo (SHINE) Name: David Brayshaw I want to again express my gratitude to the good Lord for allowing me to live in Parma for a year or more from 1964-65. My step-grandfather, Frank Catron, took me in when my father, who, at the time was married to his daughter, Lula May. They were traveling with my brothers and sister toward the South, not knowing where they would settle, when Grandpap asked Dad if he would allow me to stay with him. My father obliged, and I am thankful he did. For me, it was the best of times. From Grandpap, I learned the scrap metal business, how to sort copper from brass, cast iron, aluminum and less valuable metals. The lead, we used to make fishing sinkers. Alongside one another, we chiseled out the copper in old car generators and broke apart furniture and other objects. It was strenuous work, from which I gained a strong work ethic. I also learned from Grandpap to hunt possum and gig frogs on weekend evenings, even in the coldest weather. I can recall how directions to any place were begun with the number of a ditch. Because I’d come out of a more advanced public educational curriculum north of Pittsburgh, classwork in Parma’s school was a breeze for me. At the same time, however, I was like any other boy. I got into trouble and was given my fair share of swats by the gym teacher, a disciplinary system I feel should never have been done away with. But then, we used to count the swats like heroes, then add up the annual totals to see who led the race. I’d like to see more pictures of Parma today, to check out the losses and improvements. A lot has probably changed in 40 years. Name: Dick Ramsey To the residents of Parma, On this day 70 years ago, Dr Husted delivered a baby boy, today he is your Mayor. Happy Birthday Daddy! Dick Name: Barbara MacQuarrie I'm looking for any information in regard to the Pulliam and Jones families. My grandfather was Albert Pulliam who married Estol Jones. Estol Jones' mother and father were Eva Elder or Elders Jones, and Lee Jones. They had 3 children together, Sam, John and Estol. Eva had other children from a first marriage (I believe she was a widow). She was married to a Groaning. I know of one son, named Clarence Groaning and a daughter named Annie Groaning who married a Ray (last name). Annie had children named Billy, Bonnie, and Inez. Eva Jones was a member of the Baptist Church in Parma. I believe that Estol Jones was born in Parma. Albert Pulliam and Estol Jones Pulliam had 4 children, Betty, Glen, Ruth and Bob Pulliam. I have been told that there are other Pulliams and Elder or Elders still living in the area. If you have any information you wish to share you can e-mail me at Grandmamac4@hotmail.com. A few years back, my husband and I drove through your town and found a cemetary behind the railway tracks. We found the gravesite for Eva Jones, Clarence Groaning, and Sam Jones. My grandparents, Albert and Estol Pulliam, together with their children, moved to South Haven, MI in the late 1930's I believe. My mother and her siblings have many stories to tell about Parma and picking cotton. Love your web site. I bet my mom would love to attend your Down Home Days. It looks like you have lots of fun. Name: Paul D. Ford Just a quick note to say thanks for getting the guest book back up and running. This web site is great so keep up the good work. Name: JoEmma Greenwood Morgan It sure is good to have the Guestbook back up and running. Hopefully, everyone will start sending in their news and comments. Looking forward to the annual picnic this year, just a little over 4 months away. See ya then. JoEmma class of '56 Name: Barbara Jewett Lillard To Bill Smothers. Are you related to Goldie or Emma Smothers? They were my biological grand and great grand mothers. I am looking for more information about them and/or survivors of that family. Thanks for any help you can give. Name: Hugh Mitchell Cannon Accidently ran across your website while surfing the net. As a child, I spent a week nearly every summer visiting my Grandparents in Parma. Their names were Thomas (Bud) Mitchell and Myrtie Mitchell. My Mother was Mary Mitchell, and she moved to Mississippi after WW II where she married H.W. Cannon. She passed away January 1st of this year. I always had a really good time in Parma as a boy. Some summers we would ride the train from Mississippi to Missouri. I can't remember where we would get off the train, but that was definately a highlight of my childhood. My Grandparents both died while living in Parma and are buried in Malden. I have not been back for a long time, but looking at your website makes me want to return. You are doing a good job with this site. Keep up the good work. Name: Alice Ward Bailey Glad guestbook is back up and available. It is my way of keeping up with the happenings of SEMO Thanks and keep up the good work, time and effort! Author information goes here.
