Just wanted to drop a line to say hello to all the fine people of "Parma, Missouri" and far and wide cause we are schattered everywhere. Hoping that each and everyone has had a Great and Wonderful Christmas Day and I hope that everyone will have a Happy Great New Year. May the love and joy of the holiday seasons for always be in our hearts. For family is our treasures and our friends are our riches. Someone mentioned in one of these messages that we are not blood kin, but we are all like family, well I'm with her on that.

Happy belated birthday to Daryl and Carol Ramsey.

I'm waiting for someone to take over and write stories about Parma the way the Tin Man use to do. His stories was always great to read to me, because it would give more back ground history of Parma long ago which I also consider part of the roots of growing up in "Parma, Missouri" right along with my familys back ground history.

To those who think Parma never did anything for them, well I'm sorry you feel that way. It has done a lot for you and I pray one day you will see the light of it inside your heart.

Like I said before what would it be like if all of us that grew up and moved off would move back and help to rebuild our home town. But anyway it's like the TIN MAN said you might see boarded up windows, but the light inside your heart lets you bring the boarded up building or place to life with all the memories. Teeters grandaugther said it she doesn't see a empty lot she still sees her grandparents house and the trees and the things they did around the homestead. It's the good teaching of our elders and the lessons that were instilled into our hearts. God Bless everyone. Carla (Sapp) Kutyba

My husband Dave, was doing fine after the cancer surgery, I fed him a good dinner Thursday night, December 20. and the doctor was thinking about sending Dave home in a day or two. However, the next morning he suffered a massive stroke and he never recovered. It probably was caused by a blood clot. It shocked everyone, even the doctors. All my children are here and we have tried to have a nice Christmas since this was Dave's favorite time of the year--when all the kids were home. We went to a candle light, communion service last night and it was a sweet time. It really made it seem like Christmas and the moon was shining brightly with a beautiful glow around it. Dave's funeral will be Friday at 11:00, December 28, and he will be buried next to his Dad in Norfolk with full military and Fireman honors. It should be a service just the way he would want it, bagpipes and all. Thanks to all who have responded in regard to his illness. We know he is Heaven with no sign of illness, and seated at the feet of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Barbara

It would be fun to see how many people could sign this before Christmas and tell where they are be it Parma, Malden, New Madrid, or off far away some where. Maybe we should have a contest to see who is lives the farthest away, and who has lived in Parma the longest. Just a thought. Try not to spend to much money on presents. A good web site to visit is www.daveramsey.com if you are needing advice on getting out of debt. It is free and is really a wonderful help. God Bless

The Parma Team rang the Salvation Army Bells at both the north and south entrances of the Sikeston Wal Mart Friday, November 23rd. All 16 people were volunteers and all excited about doing it.

The Parma Team will be ringing the bells again on Christmas eve, Monday, December 23rd. We already have the required 16 people to staff both doors, two for each door, for two hours each. I always enjoy this, to me it is an opportunity to wish hundreds of shoppers "Merry Christmas"! I believe everyone has a great time. If you would like to be on the team some time in the future, just let me know.

I just wanted to let everyone know we had to put my dad Willie Ford in a nursing home a few weeks back. He is in the Malden Nursing Home. Many of you know him as a former brick layer. After he retired from brick work he started mowing yards for some of the older residents of Parma. Many times they would pay him a couple of dollars or a home made pie for the job. He made a sport out of picking up cans. I always thought that was a lot of effort for no more money you could get out of them. However, he always said it gave him something to do. Many of his friends and neighbors would save their cans and give them to him. After several months he would take them in and sometimes make a few hundred dollars. It can be said my father never had much money but always had many friends, he was much richer than many people I know. He suffers from the later stages of Alzheimer's and his body is finally starting to give in to his age. I just wanted to say thank you to thosee of you who have been his friend and been so king to him. Parma really is a great place even if it doesn't have a Wal-Mart. Thanks again.

I may not see much of any of you this cotton vaction. Just had open heart surgery 8 days ago and I think all the cotton will be out before I am ready to pick. Only one by-pass, 90% restriction. Not your typical blockage or heart disease. Heart is in great shape, other arteries fine. Caused by a defect in the artery. It had an unusually sharp S curve in it, and blood flow apparently has been slowed down in this curve for years, causing build up. Had not been for this curve, would likely never had severe blockage. Like the old S curve down south of Parma, you could only take it so fast before something had to give. Doing great, no pain pills required so far, amazing what they can do, as those of you that have been through this know. Dr. said I would feel better when I recovered from all this. I said "I hope not, I would be delerious if I felt any better than before". No pain , no symptoms before. You folks ever have the slightest sign of a problem , get yourself checked out or you will miss out on a cottonpickin season as I have.

I stayed with my Dad's second wife's sister and their father, the Catron family. Helen and Grandpa, who owned a junk yard right next to the home, were very nice to us. Today I think Doris Catron lives in Parma, next to Grandpa's house. We would go 'coon huntin', and once we treed a bobcat. We would go skating at the roller skating center near the house and we would walk the railroad tracks into town where we would play pool and the pinball machines, we would drink Nehi's. In the evenings we would watch Porter Wagner with Grandpa and he would chaw some tobacco. We attended school breifly. I got in a fight in class and was sent home for a day.... Dad couldn't find any work so we had to move south. Today Lula Mae, Helen, Grandpa, Frank, and Dad have all passed away. Lula Mae's sons have also passed on, Tony and Tom Eiceman. Life is so short a time, here today, gone tomorrow.

Two years ago I was able to conect with a cousin I didn't even know. It provides a vehicle for former classmates to reconect and more. This should not be a place to hang dirty laundry whether it is false or correct. There is a place to make/file a formal compliant about things going on in Parma. So again thanks for cleaning up the negative comments.

I couldn't believe my eyes 3 years back when I found this website. I moved from Parma in 1956 when I was in the 9th grade. After finding this site, I was able to correspond with Alice Ward, Ginder Douglass, and Norma Lape--all my classmates. I hated moving from Parma, but we moved close to Paragould and I graduated from Greene County Tech. I remember the great times we had on band trips with Mr. Allen.

During the past year, due to my "mother board'

being burned, I kinda lost interest in the internet and didn't replace it, but now I have a new computer and am ready to relive some old times.

I love reading all the stories about picking and chopping cotton. I guess most of us didn't like it, but I guess it gave us a good work ethic.

I am now retired and living in a small town just south of Dallas. All my immediate family are gone, but I am blessed with many good Texas friends.

I can remember back in the late 80's, my brother Bobby was a very sick man, but wanted to make one last trip to Parma where he and I grew up. He was in pain, but really enjoyed the trip. He died 2 weeks later.

Enough of this sad stuff, anyone who remembers me please contact. My e-mail addr is Walthwilson@aol.com

I saw that Toshia had her first child, seems only yesterday Nancy was having her, much to my chagrin I was at her house when she went into premature labor, I never want to go through that again. It is so good to hear from you and to hear all about you kids, I know Little David has children too, just don't know how many. thank you so much for writing to me,tell Grandma Nancy (still sounds strange to me ) that I still love her like a sis and I think about her often, especially December 19. I loved listening to my grandpa talking on his CB aka "Silver Top" and listening to the Cardinals on the radio in the front room. I remember Mr. & Mrs. Ford living accross the street and going over to visit with them. They are great memories that I like to share with my son. God Bless your little town.

My Mom attended the picnic and saw a lot of friends. She had a great time and said it was a very big crowd this year. Sorry, I couldn't be there due to neck surgery. Maybe next year. I'm glad people are still returning for the reunions, and proud of the folks who put this thing together every year. James Brown, I agree with your comments and can't understand why some former Parma citizens have no interest in attending. I'm sure Bill Tom was missed by all. I still enjoy looking at some of the pictures he sent me. None of us know when it will be "our" last visit. If anyone has bad feelings about someone, they need to talk and forgive one another. That's the Christian way! Wishing God's best in good health and good memories to all.

Just wanted to say how much my wife and I enjoyed the Fri night dinner. Also, wanted to say how much we enjoyed going over to Dick Ramsey's house and visiting with Reatha Lewis, Steve Lewis, Elain Nunn, and Dick. It was so much fun talking about good ole days of growning up. All I can say if you were not there you might got talked about. Hopefully, we will be looking at doing a 35 year reunion, (did I say 35 yrs?). As always the food was good and everyone involved deserves a big thank you for all the hard work they put into making this such a fun event. Hope everyone has fun @ the pinic.

I attended first grade in Parma. My name was Kathy Moser. My aunt and uncle were Frank and Hattie Edge and they had a cafe in Risco. My grandpa was John Moser and my grandmother was Pauline Moser and they farmed on Hwy 153 in the s curve. Many of my early childhood years were spent in Parma. My dad graduated from Parma and his name is Herman Leroy Moser and my Mothers name is Pauline. Her maiden name was Edge. Those who know her best call her Polly. Parma looks a lot different now. Vacant buildings that were once occupied by thriving businesses. Parma still has some of the best farmland in the country. I walked and chopped those bean fields when I was a little girl. God Bless all those farmers in Parma, Missouri.

I am planning to be at the Home Town Days this month. I think I have only missed one since it started and that was last year when I was recuperating from a couple surgeries. I am still kicking but just not has high. It is always great to renew friendships and make a few new ones each year. Parma people always throw a good party and it is important we support all their efforts. Thanks ole friends for keeping the ball rolling each year.

Have not seen many comments from the Class of 1956 about attending. If the Good Lord is willing and the creek don't rise (translated) that means if money is available, I plan on being there, now that we finally have the date. I recall talking to Bill Tom via telephone a year or so before he passed away. Bill Tom had gotten irrtated (pissed off) at someone or something and would not attend. Some of you, due to him feeling like that never saw him again. Being irritated with someone or something is fine, but do it between the Downhome Days every year! Some of us may not be around the next year. Car accidents, and other things. I, personally am looking forward to this event as I do every year. I have a brother, two sisters, and two cousins that refuse to attend; due to the fact "there is nothing there for me". I can't convince them their "roots" are there. Sounds like "denial" to me. But then, I have more important things to be concerned about. Still trying to figure out if in fact, I might be the Daddy of the daughter of Anne Nicole Smith. I've "come to", "woke up" in some unusual places. I'll keep working on that.

Mike has always given the extra time to help others and now his family could use support and prayers.

Gas is really high now and driving back and forth to the hosp. in St. Louis from Parma; Food, Lodging, etc., will be very expensive.

Crystal, you posted the first info. about Miliie's car accident and having also recently undergoing Heart Surgery. You said contact Bootheel Petroleum about giving to help. Please put out a Phone Number to call and also a PO Box Number of Bootheel Petroleum so we might get support on the way to helping.

Our sympathies to the Crain family on the passing of Norma McBride. I am sure she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Reading the obituary of Mrs. McBride brougnt back lots of memories of my childhood. She had formerly been married to Huey Kitchens and lived in the Methodist Parsonage across the street from our family at the time of Huey''s death. Though I was young at the time I remember the shock and fear that I felt from that knowledge. Strange how some things impact your memory and create feelings you don't even know you have until they well up when you least expect. One of those strange but true stories. There are many of those connected with our lives in Parma. I think that is why there are so many that return each year in July.

Rebeca,

You and your family are very welcome and are also in my thoughts everyday. That day will be a day that I personnally will never forget. My heart sank hard. I cried all the way home that night for you and your family and your BABY.

I really try hard to improve the town safety and the citizens safety. I hope to one day show every one that not all police officers are bad and that we do have a heart and feelings too. I love working in Parma. The City Counsel is the greatest I have ever worked with and they are working hard to improve the town. There are some really wonderful people in Parma. I look forward to coming to work everyday. My family knows how much happier I am working here. That really means alot.

Rebeca, your thoughts and support mean alot to me. Remember Your little Angel is watching over you and is happy and safe with the Lord. THANK YOU!!!!!!

Mr. Husted, your support and appreciation is more appreciated than you know. You and Mrs. Husted can always put a smile on my face and you are very dear to me. I wish, not for me but for the TOWN, that more people in Parma appreciated everything the way the two of you do. I hope everything goes well for Sarah with her parents.

To everyone in Parma, May God Bless you all.

And always remember good things come to those who wait. Everyone is God's Child

Just wanted to ask Jay Foster if you knew anything about Charlie Ross Jr. I am not sure if he is a Jr. But this Charlie graduated with me in 1974. I think his family called him Delbert. I haven't found anyone who knows where he is or what has ever happened with him. I always considered him a friend and would like to catch up with him. Thanks

I want to again express my gratitude to the good Lord for allowing me to live in Parma for a year or more from 1964-65.

My step-grandfather, Frank Catron, took me in when my father, who, at the time was married to his daughter, Lula May. They were traveling with my brothers and sister toward the South, not knowing where they would settle, when Grandpap asked Dad if he would allow me to stay with him. My father obliged, and I am thankful he did. For me, it was the best of times.

From Grandpap, I learned the scrap metal business, how to sort copper from brass, cast iron, aluminum and less valuable metals. The lead, we used to make fishing sinkers. Alongside one another, we chiseled out the copper in old car generators and broke apart furniture and other objects. It was strenuous work, from which I gained a strong work ethic.

I also learned from Grandpap to hunt possum and gig frogs on weekend evenings, even in the coldest weather. I can recall how directions to any place were begun with the number of a ditch.

Because I’d come out of a more advanced public educational curriculum north of Pittsburgh, classwork in Parma’s school was a breeze for me. At the same time, however, I was like any other boy. I got into trouble and was given my fair share of swats by the gym teacher, a disciplinary system I feel should never have been done away with. But then, we used to count the swats like heroes, then add up the annual totals to see who led the race.

I’d like to see more pictures of Parma today, to check out the losses and improvements. A lot has probably changed in 40 years.

I'm looking for any information in regard to the Pulliam and Jones families. My grandfather was Albert Pulliam who married Estol Jones. Estol Jones' mother and father were Eva Elder or Elders Jones, and Lee Jones. They had 3 children together, Sam, John and Estol. Eva had other children from a first marriage (I believe she was a widow). She was married to a Groaning. I know of one son, named Clarence Groaning and a daughter named Annie Groaning who married a Ray (last name). Annie had children named Billy, Bonnie, and Inez.

Eva Jones was a member of the Baptist Church in Parma.

I believe that Estol Jones was born in Parma. Albert Pulliam and Estol Jones Pulliam had 4 children, Betty, Glen, Ruth and Bob Pulliam. I have been told that there are other Pulliams and Elder or Elders still living in the area. If you have any information you wish to share you can e-mail me at Grandmamac4@hotmail.com.

A few years back, my husband and I drove through your town and found a cemetary behind the railway tracks. We found the gravesite for Eva Jones, Clarence Groaning, and Sam Jones.

My grandparents, Albert and Estol Pulliam, together with their children, moved to South Haven, MI in the late 1930's I believe.

My mother and her siblings have many stories to tell about Parma and picking cotton.

Love your web site. I bet my mom would love to attend your Down Home Days. It looks like you have lots of fun.

Just a quick note to say thanks for getting the guest book back up and running. This guest book has helped me find long lost cousins and get back in touch with friends from many years ago. Parma, while it has had its ups and downs is where some of my life longs friendships began. I recently connected back up with Kurt Batz. It was so nice. This web site is great so keep up the good work.

To Bill Smothers. Are you related to Goldie or Emma Smothers? They were my biological grand and great grand mothers. I am looking for more information about them and/or survivors of that family. Thanks for any help you can give.

Accidently ran across your website while surfing the net. As a child, I spent a week nearly every summer visiting my Grandparents in Parma. Their names were Thomas (Bud) Mitchell and Myrtie Mitchell. My Mother was Mary Mitchell, and she moved to Mississippi after WW II where she married H.W. Cannon. She passed away January 1st of this year. I always had a really good time in Parma as a boy. Some summers we would ride the train from Mississippi to Missouri. I can't remember where we would get off the train, but that was definately a highlight of my childhood. My Grandparents both died while living in Parma and are buried in Malden. I have not been back for a long time, but looking at your website makes me want to return. You are doing a good job with this site. Keep up the good work.
