Wednesday, November 23, 2005. I had a little down time today and decided to read some comments on Parma's Website.
I enjoyed reading Joemma's Greenwood's comments. I just wanted Joemma to know how good a friend her brother John Greenwood is to me. He has been a friend since High School.
John is highly successfully but still down to earth. I thought so much of John that I have to share this story with the fine folks of Parma. John and I met two sisters from Wardell, Missouri back in 1968 after I returned from the service. I married Linda and we named our first Child Stephanie Joemma Borders. She is now Dr. Stephanie Joemma Borders. I always promised John I would name my first child after Joemma. We also have another daughter Sonya Nicole Borders. She is a teacher in Wentzeville, MO.

I never dreamed there would be a site like this.. I was just looking at early
years, trying to remember things. We moved so much.. I was born on a small farm
on Number 8 ditch in 1939. My mother is Katherine Sanders and father John Baker.
We moved to Detroit when I was 2 or 3 years old. We moved back to Fisk in about
1949 and tried to farm again, but left in couple years. Anyway, I think this is
a great site and will let my mother know. Thanks...

New York! Since leaving Parma over 53 years ago, I have visited all but 3 of the
50 US states; have traveled to Cuba, Africa, France, Germany, England, Italy,
several Caribbean Islands; and have lived in Washington,DC, Chicago, New York
and Nashville. You can take the girl out of Parma, but you can't take Parma out

After reading thru the guestbook, there were several names that were immediately
recognizable. As I said, I left Parma part way thru 9th grade. Here are some of
the people that I remember:
Alice Ward--played clarinet in band. I played alto sax.
Alice I remember your good friend Ginger Douglas.
I also remember the Leigh brothers. Lynn was in my class and also in the band.(I
think he played trombone) I remember Garth, who was and evidently still is the
greatest on trumpet.

I lived in the Parma area from 1949 to 1956 attending school at the old Walker

band director, Mr. Ivy Allen. We then moved to Arkansas where I graduated at
Greene Co. Tech in 1959.

from the class of 54 that haven't shown up since this all started. Hope they

I have been trying to send this message for several days but I couldn't get

I had a great time at the Downhome Days picnic. I got to see so many old friends
I haven't seen since I left Parma in 1954.
Parma is still the friendly little town it was then. The people at the food
store where we had lunch were so nice to us. They let us tie up the whole dining
area for our own little reunion with all the people who tracked us down after we
left the community center on Friday.
I didn't get to spend near enough time visiting with everyone, so many people,
so little time.
JoEmma,if you got the snapshot of the Julian clan I would love to have a copy.
My sister-in-law hit the wrong button on my camera so I didn't get a picture of
the 5 of us.
You can e-mail me at Lhpot@aol.com and I will send you my address. I would like
to hear from you even if you didn't get the picture.
Archie, You should be careful opening car doors and hugging ladies without an
introduction, I had no idea who you were. Remember it had been 50 years since I
saw you, and face it we have changed a lot. I'm not saying we are getting old,
just more mature. HA HA I hope to see everyone again next year.

E-mail addresses may be posted in the body of the Comments data field if you want. I have no prohibition on the posting of e-mail addresses. If you want to pass along your e-mail address in the Comments data field feel free. I have eliminated the data field for e-mail addresses just because SPAM'ers are looking for easy harvesting of e-mail addresses and very likely have programs that harvest e-mail addressed from the e-mail data field on guestbooks. Putting an e-mail address in the comments field makes it harder for them to harvest, but be advised they may still be able to harvest any e-mail address placed in the comments field as well. You may have noticed that MUGU is not making entries any longer in this guestbook. MUGU was a code name for e-mail harvesters to let the others know that these addresses had been harvested, and a bookmark when they came back to harvest only new entries. Just be advised that if you put your e-mail address on this guestbook, and in a week or so you receive a message for a Prince/Doctor/Government minister from a third world country trying to move millions of dollars out of their country and asking for your help with of course a generous percentage set aside for your trouble and expense; this is a hoax. If you send them your banking information your will be taken.

Once again DOWN HOME DAY is almost here. Hoping to be able to come this year. I
would like to give thanks to George (Jerry) Husted for confirming my answer to
the Snow Geese that was on James Vaughn's farm land, It was a great picture to
view along with the snow. To CINDY ROSS, it seems like it's been eons since I
see you last. I thought the first time you moved away it was to Montgomery,
Alabama. It was great to hear from you on the Parma Website. My parents still
live in Missouri-my dad lives in Malden and my mom lives in Dexter. I have one
sister in Malden, my brother in Dexter and one sister in Arkansas, one sister
down here in Texas. Anyway back to July 4th BBQ hope everyone has a great time.
Still wishing to see more of Classmates of 1981 on the website. Reading this
website brings lots of information of people we grew up with and about good
times of our hometown of a lot of great people who lived at Parma before some of
us were born. Lots of fond memories and wonderful people. Thanks again Webmaster
of Parma - keep on keeping the great memories of Parma, Missouri alive. HAPPY
4th of July. Later!

I grew up in Parma. Went to Parma school. I remember Parma when I was a kid, we
never had to lock our doors back then. There was still a CPL lumber yards, A CPL
stores. July, 2 fireworks stands, 3 gas stations, and Morgan had the LP place. I
remember getting some clothes at the Morgan's store. I remember the barber shop
right behind it. The cafe, The picnic, I guess Parma still has. I remember when
my father was on the city board and the Lions club. We stayed up all night
behind the school as the guys cooked pigs for the 4th. I remember growing up in
the 1st Baptist church. Talking on the Hardin's lot, and the sad gatherings in
the funeral home we all hate to do at times.
I haven't lived in Parma since 1991, and it has changed a lot. But I will
remember Parma the way it was.

Subject: 1965 Parma High School Reunion
Date: Friday, May 27, 2005

Comments:
Obviously I've reached the age (56) when I need to reconnect with my past. I
graduated at 16 from Parma (MO) High School, the lone African American student
in my class. (Actually I graduated early, in January, went to Mizzou, graduated
in '68, then settled in St. Louis, where I have been teaching at Webster Groves
High School for the past 30+ years.)
Although I thought Parma was behind me after my parents died (Rufus Williamson,
Sr. in 1982 and Florida Bell Williamson in 2003), I'm thinking I gained more
from growing up in a rural small town than I ever acknowledged.
Here's my question: Does the class of 1965 plan a reunion? If so, when, where,
etc.? Or, did I miss it?
Also, I couldn't help but note that the "George Husted" who keeps adding entries
on this website must be the son of my old doctor, the venerable Dr. Husted, who
delivered me at birth in 1948 and left 17 stitch marks from a nasty gash I
suffered from a merry-go-round injury in first grade. Of course, I knew that Dr.
Husted was also the father of Mrs. Leigh, whose literary connection I'm sure was
part of the path that led me to becoming a high school English teacher.
God bless all of you!

I lived in Parma and my dad sharecropped with a gentleman named Frayley - I was
too young to remember the correct spelling. Anyhow, we moved away in 1964. I
loved that town and remember the kind librarian uptown in 1955-56. Haven't had a
chance to return, so it was great seeing the pictures. We were one of the few
black families who lived there at that time.

Janice (Stewart) Moore widow of Carl Moore passed away march 7, 2005 in Kissimmee Fl. of a heart attack.
Hi Carla, The snow geese were on the farm that James Vaughn farmed. There were acres and acres of them. From ground level it didnt look like many but as I drove by them going home, again there were acres of them. I speeded to get the camera and return to get the shots. While I was there more traffic went by and they flew. What a sound! Hundreds of thousands. My wife and I have been to Reelfoot Lake in TN. One of the sights was where there were between 40,000 and 50,000 sne geese. These in Parma were many times larger than those at Reelfoot Lake. I'm glad you are enjoying all of the photos. More are coming soon. George (Jerry)
I have to agree with all of you, the new pictures of the home town are just wonderful. Please keep up the great work webmaster and thank you for all the memories everyone shares. Seeing those white geese was just amazing, so many. It looked like the geese were on the farm land I remember beening own by James Vaughan. And of course you know living in Houston you very rarely see snow. The pictures of show bring back good memories of childhood days. Thank you and hello to classmates of 1981 and to family and friends which or many. Later!
I am so glad you have this website. Mom has been telling me about the store and now I can see it. It's great when I get homesick...seeing pictures from around home..the store, the church. Thanks for keeping me up to date!

Everyday I look on the Parma website in hopes of reading some news about someone from Parma. I am wondering if others are doing the same thing. So, with that in mind, I am going to post a message. I am looking forward to the 4th. of July picnic. I missed last year and have kicked myself ever since. I know the picnic is several months away but the way time is flying it will be here before we know it. Hello to everyone from Parma especially the class of '56. See ya July 2nd. :)
Classmates from 60's and 70's will be at Hickory Log, February 19th, 6:00 p.m. Last year turned out 60 attending after word got out. Right now there is two rooms reserved and if ANYONE graduating from PHS wants to get classmates together for a night of visitation, do so and contact myself at 573-887-3175; Tonya Pulling, 573-276-2794; Phyllis Biggs, 357-4300 or Barbie Brannon, 573-396-8550 in Parma as soon as you can. Last year we ordered off the menu and have been told we should be able to again, depending on number in attendance. We enjoyed visiting until time to close the doors. Make some calls to friends and come join us....
i want to learn the history of ingleside
The format for the Guest Book has changed. The e-mail address is no longer included as a field. This is to eliminate the possibility that SPAMer's can come along and harvest the e-mail addresses. If you wish to post your e-mail address please do so in the body of your comments, and understand that if you do so, SPAMer's can harvest your address - it will be more difficult but still possible.
