Thanks for showing the beautiful snowfall in Parma. Now you know how it is for those of us living in the North. Actually you all have had more snow than we have thus far but we may get it before winter ends. May each of you have a blessed New Year 2005. Looking forward to seeing everyone in July.
Lived there for a while, but ended up moving on.
Harold has asked me to advise all parties to take His and Verneta's name off the E-MAIL address book. She was His computer Operator. He is unplugging the computer.. .. LEO (SHINE) MATTHEWS ...
I did indeed attend all 12 grades of school in Parma, graduating in 1953. My parent operated "Leonberger's Cafe" for many years and I worked there during my high school years. I also chopped cotton in the spring and picked cotton in the fall. I have only the fondest of memories of Parma and the people I knew and went to school with while growing up there.
Nice site. I was looking for a different high school and ran into this guestbook. Happy holidays. :)

May all the people of Parma have a great and blessed Thanksgiving and please remember to say a prayer for all the men and women of the Armed Forces that are in harms way.
We have all seen postings by a Mugu Man on this site. It appears that there are scam sites that are out to harvest e-mail addresses. A good place to do this is a guest book. If you have entered your e-mail on this guest book, it has been harvested by scammers, and you can probably expect to shortly be receiving an e-mail from someone in Nigeria claming to have millions of dollars that has to be moved out of his country or he and his family will loose it all. This is a scam. If you send your bank routing number and personal info, and you will be the one loosing money. Attached is a better explanation of the scam. The entry by MUGU GUYMAN is just a notice to all the other e-mail address harvesters that these e-mail addresses have already been harvested.
The damage is done already, and I can't change that, but if you have posted your e-mail address here and would like me to delete it, please go to the Contact Us page and leave a message for the Webmaster.
Attachment:
Just to warn all about entering your email address in any website guestbook. Do you get emails promising you of untold fortunes from wives/sons/accountants/lawyers of dead dictators from Nigeria/Ivory Coast/South Africa/Angola/Namibia and other countries?
Here's how they get your email:
Scripts (web-crawlers) or individuals (often named MUGU GUYMEN) collect email addresses from guestbooks on websites.
In every Guestbook that has had emails collected you will see a guestbook post from a 419 (four-one-nine) Scam Group*: the text usually contains: "mugu please keep off".
Entries from MUGUS or MUGU GUYMEN from Nigeria in a guest book indicate that all the e-mail addresses are now in the hands of 419 scammers from countries in West Africa. They're putting these warnings so that other 419 scammers should not re-harvest the e-mail addresses.
PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE PUTTING IN YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS IN GUEST BOOKS. If you need to contact the owner(s) of a website, e-mail him/her/them directly.
Go to the: Google Search Engine and do a search of GUYMEN NIGERIA. Try it and you will find out that they are all over guestbooks they stake their claim too.
Beware of these scams. These mugus are the scum of the Internet. Please go to http://www.fraudaid.com or http://www.scamorama.com for more information.
* 4-1-9: Four-One-Nine is the Nigerian criminal code for a widespread scam. One receives an unsolicited email, snail mail, or fax stating that millions of US dollars need to be removed from Nigeria (or some other country, usually in West Africa) and you have been selected by government, banking officials, or surviving relatives to assist.
PLEASE GUYMEN, KEEP OFF, I DON REACH HERE

Sue, I sit here in Parma crying into my tissue over the hardships the older generation has had to endure. However what the older generation does not think about is the fact the younger generation is the ones that are going to have to deal with the mess that you left behind.
Welcome back! Just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your serving our country and making it a safer place for all of us. The younger generation has not had to endure too much hardship so they do not appreciate the sacrefices that have been made for them to live in our great land. However, if they continue to take it for granted they will be in for a rude awakening when their protections are taken away. I hope the bitterness and hatred that hits this page will stop but it is a symptom of a bigger problem. God help us if it continues to errode the foundations of kindness and love that God wants for all of us. Kindest Regards,Sue
Earl did you go to school at Parma. With the way you spelled your name I was unsure.
webmaster i enjoy this site you do a very very good job so keep it going and clean thank you
In light of the recent lively running debate on the Guest Book page, I was wondering if there would be any interest in an area where different topics could be discussed - like Medicare, Iraq, health care, abortion, etc. and get back to using the guest book for what it was intended to be used for - a place were visitors could leave a greeting or a comment. I realize that this would have been a great idea before the elections, but I was kind of tied up with that thing called military service, and was unable to put one together. Would there be an interest in doing that now? Please reply.
I am not the webmaster, our son George (George S.) is the webmaster. He lives in Texas. My name is George, not Commander George. He is George S. and I'm George G. He is much calmer and a whole lot younger than I am. Yes, when my foot is stompted, I get aggravated, he just lets the water roll off his back and ignores the stuff, unless it is unpublishable, then He just delets it. He says the election is over, we are one country and the enemy is terrorism. Why don't you give me a call and we can visit as two neighbors of Parma?
Wow George, what a temper! I always thought webmasters were calm individuals until now. I will give you a hint to who I am. You waved at me one day this past week and that was in Parma, MO. That is all you get for now. Yes you are correct I was afraid or as you put it a COWARD until last Wednesday. Now we are just happy that the right person won the race and we can all sleep well knowing that the men and woman of our Armed Forces are going to keep us safe. See you in town Commander George.
MSJ - you go girl. The stories are old. George times have changed get with the groove. Come up town on Friday night and we will show you how to get your groove on.
CDR George, Thanks for yet another lecture about your service to the county. Half of this town is starting to think you should have been Kerry's running mate...
Again, "Republicans for Bush", are you ashamed of your name? You referred to me, personally, as "you and your old buds" and your comments inferred that I do nothing at all for my City of Parma or our county, etc. Your snide comment about me, personally "you and all your old buds have nothing better to do in life than to sit around and tell war stories and live on your past". You filled out the form indicating that you live in Parma. If you believe that all I do is "sit around and tell war stories" you certainly are not referring to Parma, MO. Perhaps you are from Parma, OH or Parma, Italy. I will not be continuing using our Parma website for this "conversation" If you want to discuss this further, how about giving me a call at 357-4866 of FAX at 357-5990. I'll be glad to talk with you. I recommend, if you are not ashamed to let your name be known, use it instead of saying you are "Republicans for Bush" and no e-mail address. WHY ARE YOU ASHAMED TO GIVE YOUR NAME OR E-MAIL ADDRESS? ARE YOU A CLOSET REPUBLICAN, OR JUST A COWARD?
George - Nice try, the comment was not intended at all towards the men and women of the military. The subject at hand was the fact that you and all your old buds have nothing better to do in life than to sit around and tell war stories and live on your past and take stuff to serious.
To "Republicans for Bush", are you ashamed to put your name and e-mail in your comments? I'm not. Your snide comment "We really appreciate all the dedication you put forth to your country swabbing the decks of those boats protecting our right to FREE speech" is a real slam against the men and women in the Navy. I, personally, put 32 years in the Navy. However, the guy you made the slam against is my son, George S. Husted. He is not one of "you old guys". He just recently spend many months at sea on a ship whose purpose was to intercept drug runners in the eastern Pacific. They intercepted large high speed boats carrying tons of cocain coming to the west coast. He was in charge of the boarding team going on the boats to arrest the drug runners. That is a life risking job. Since you are obviously not one of "you old guys", how about a little respect for our men and women in the Armed Forces that are doing more than swabbing the decks. CDR George G. Husted, USN, Ret.
RUN COMMOT
George you say you have spoken to members of the Republican party from town. Those old guys are not everybody. There are young Republicans in this town also, who do not take the game (politics) so serious. Next time you old guys sit around and brag about your past in the Navy ask the younger generation what they think about it to. There is nothing to get serious about, just live life and enjoy..
I can't imagine the Republican Party supporting flaming. That does not sound like the Republican Party I know. Nor can I imagine the Republican Party not supporting getting back to the serious business of being a country united behind our duly elected President. I have already spoken to a couple of Republicans in this town, and they are very supportive of my posting. Again - opinions are welcome, flaming is not.
George, We the Parma Republicans have to agree with Flintstone. We really appreciate all the dedication you put forth to your country swabbing the decks of those boats protecting our right to FREE speech which is exactly what Flintstone is doing. You could lighten up some and stop being so serious about the politics of the county.
I beg to differ George. By your own words "this is not a sports game". Why do they call it a race? One would believe a race is kind of like a sports event or game. Would'nt you George. That is all politics is, a race to see who finishes first or better known as a game. You play the game right you win the race...
No matter who you voted for, it is time to put the bitterness and rancor of the election behind us and move on. In the words of our President, ".
. . I want to
speak to every person who voted for my opponent: To make this nation stronger
and better I will need your support, and I will work to earn it. I will do all
I can do to deserve your trust. A new term is a new opportunity to reach out to
the whole nation. We have one country, one Constitution and one future that
binds us. And when we come together and work together, there is no limit to the
greatness of America."
If anyone had reason to gloat, he did - but he set the example for all to follow when he gave his victory speech. This is not a sports game giving the winner bragging rights for the next four years;
this is a serious exercise in freedom and democracy. The election is over - let’s get back to the serious business of being a country united behind our duly elected President.
Flaming is not allowed on this web site, and postings considered to be flaming
will be deleted.
Did I hit a sore spot with my comment about . . . Kerry..

I enjoy reading the guest book with comments from former residents. It was a remarkable town which brings lots of 'fuzzy warm' memories. Thank you.
Would love to hear from residents and former residents especially those who graduated around 1959 (before or after).
This weekend I have received instructions again in placing photographs on our website. You will find new photographs on the "Down Home Days" tab. There will be more. I will be working this week in putting more on. George

Like a trip back in time.
Hey Parma Friends and family, You did a great job again. With all the rain forecasted I was fearful it would be a no show for a lot of people. I was wrong. I barely noticed there had been rain with having the tent, tables, chairs and entertainment. Not to mention all the friends and relatives that came and stayed long enough for everyone to circulate and talk to our hearts content. You are a great bunch of people and I am very thankful for all you do to make our homecoming a beautiful memory each year. I know it is a tiresome job year after year but you are loved and appreciated by all of us that live so far away. Thanks from the bottom of our hearts for going beyond the extra mile for HOME TOWN DAYS each year. We also appreciated the set up at the community building on Friday night plus the extra effort that had been made for the class reunions in the community building Sat. night. Thanks Mayor Ramsey for the special attention given to all of us when you had more important things on your mind. Great Job Guys & Gals!!! See you again next year. Sue & Tom Parkman
l will be waiting for everything because l know your school will be of good one . thanks
To Mayor Randal Ramsey and others on the committee for the Down Home Days. Thanks again for a great celebration. The food was great as was the program Friday night. The "tales certainly brought out another side of high school life.
It is always fun to visit with school friends from Parma--both from high school and even the elementary grades. Our reunion was a success thanks to Wanda Lee and Norma. Heard so many comments about the tee shirts. Bet we see more of them on other classes next year. Sorry some of our class members couldn't be there.
Thanks again for all the hard work and planning that go into making the July 4th celebration in Parma so much fun.
See you all next year.
Great site guys! ! ! congratulations...

My family included the Thomas Knight family who owned the local funeral home about 1930. Also the Earl Norman family who lived in Parma for many years. Children included Jerrel, Billy, Paul and a set of triplets. The mother was Linola. Thanks for any information you have to share with us.

God Is Jihad / Message for America. Dear America God or prayer's are no longer wanted in School's or Courts across America. God knows the devil is doing this , God's son Jesus said the devil would do evil things like this. It was God who led his children out of captivity from the land of Egypt, it was God who sent his only begotten son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for mankinds sins so humanity could be saved. It was God who made America a great nation now God will show the world that he is the one and only true living God, he has sent his angel General Jihad to trouble the nations of the world and he shall not fail. Although the heavens and earth may pass away God's word shall endure forever. In the end all shall come to know the name of the Lord and worship him for he is (Holy). Jesus Christ shall then be crowned king of king's and lord of lord's and ruler of earth and all it's kingdom's forever,Amen.
God Bless, SG-2 American Jihad

Happy Birthday Billion! You are the song in my heart and the beauty that surrounds me on the days where there is nothing pretty about being human. Everybody sees how amazing you are, and the fact that you still choose me gives me reason to believe that the Universe is still a fair place to exist... Thank you. http://www.members.aol.com/okolemahina/4myhusband.htm
I came across this page via a Yahoo.com search and I'd like to know how I can get in touch with Charles Kehner. We worked together several years in the '80s and early '90s in Leavenworth, KS. He was my team leader for a while. The email address I had for him doesn't seem to work and the note from him on this page includes an address, charlesk@rr.com, that I tried but doesn't seem to work. And since I remember him mentioning attending Parma HS, this must be the right Charles Kehner. Thank you.
HUGH JENKINS GRADUATED IN 1951. WE ARE TRYING TO FIND HIS WHEREABOUTS SO WE CAN INVITE HIM TO OUR CLASS REUNION. IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME ON THIS IT WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

There will be the second meeting of the Down Home Days Picnic Committee on Monday evening, April 26, 2004 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parma Community Center. All members are requested to attend. Also, anyone else who would be interested in helping with the weekend picnic is invited. ALSO, ALSO, take a look at the "News" tab for some of the new construction in Parma. Sincerely, Randall Ramsey, Mayor
Go to the committee and vounteer to get something together for your age group and the younger children. From what I know of the committee, they will welcome any suggestions.
I feel they have done a great job in the past in trying to get everyone together. It takes everyone to make it work. We who come from a great distance can do little but give them our thanks and support. You who are nearby can be of great help to "the older generation" who keeps Parma Days alive and well.
Dear Parma, I have lived in Parma all my life until just recently. I had a very good child hood there. The streets were safe the other kids from town and I could walk around the block at night it was so safe. There is one thing that does bother me. Why is it there is nothing for us young adults that did not graduate from Parma. I went to school there till my eighth grade year and was forced to go to New Madrid County Central. There is never nothing for the kids there. What you people on the committe dont understand is our town is not leaving us any memories to hold on to of our town. Its so sad. Even at the picnic they have nothing for the small children, no face paintings or games. Nothing but a bunch of older folks getting together to see who is left. Im happy that the older gerneration of Parma still gets together, but whats going to happen when they are all gone? Isnt our Fourth of July celebration suppose to be about the entire town. I lost my grandmother this year, Virginia Halterman. She used to be a cook at the school. Will she be remembered? Or will she not matter because she didnt graduate from our high school. Our town is going to hell, and its because its thinking of the past, and not the future. I'd like to think that our town wants to be here in a hundred years. I'd like to think our town cares about the kids that have grown up the last twenty years and the children they are having. I hope they will make us feel like we count also.
Hope to find out where school friends and others are
Hi Flintstone, Thanks for your last comment. I am hoping to enjoy one of Bob's books also. Sincerely, George
The reason for more than one copy is that when a person makes an entry and hits the enter/return key to send it, nothing happens. So, they hit the return key again and then again. Thus - three copies. My first try I think I made 3 or 4 copies. Our Son, George (the Parma Webmaster) cleared it up. He is at sea now but when He gets a chance, he will eradicate the duplicates. HOPE TO SEE MANY OF YOU AT THE 2004 DOWN HOME DAYS, JULY 2 AND 3.
Bob: I don't know what is going on with the Web Site, but if you scroll back down the page you will find a lot of entries that are in triplicate and even four times.
Bob, no need to apologize, these things happen. I will truly enjoy reading your book. Best of luck to you and your family.
A short time ago I wrote a letter in this Guest Book. For whatever reason it appeared in triplicate. I want to apologize for that. It was unintentional, but at my age, strange things do happen.
I hope to get two of those three copies deleted as soon as possible, for it is most embarrasing.
I cannot thank Mayor Ramsey enough for sending me the "key to the city" for the 100th anniversary of Parma in the year 2000.
Best regards to my friends in and from Parma. Bob
There will be a meeting of the Down Home Days Picnic Committee on Monday evening, April 5, 2004 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parma Community Center. All committee members are requested to attend. Also, anyone who would be interested in helping with the weekend picnic is welcome to attend.

Hi Mack, Thanks for asking about the next "Down Home Days" picnic. There will be activities on Friday evening, July 2, 2004. The Picnic will be Saturday noon, July 3, 2004. We are expecting another large crowd. However, the Mayor has not scheduled a committee meeting yet (although several of us have asked for hime to hurry and schedule one). For future information, the Saturday picnic is always the Saturday nearest to July 4th. George Husted
Bob Barney is a Parma native and a very dear friend of mine. I personally am very interested in his book "Bullet Proof" and thought others, especially men and women who served in the military, might be interested in the book. I asked him to let us know where and how to get a copy. Flintstone, I'm sorry you were offended by his stating his rank. He earned that in his service having been shot down and held as POW. Many of us care. I care! By the way, Flintstone, did you serve our country on active duty in any of the Armed Forces? and do you have a name and email address, or do you prefer to be "Unknown"? when is the next rerunion
I recently completed writing a book titled "Bulletproof, Prevailing in WWII as Pilot and POW." It is a big success on the West coast. A Wal Mart store has asked me to do a book signing on all federal holidays througout this year. The latest book signer at this particular store was Lt. Col Oliver North. If any one is interested they can find the book on the Internet at the following address: >www.xlibris.com/bulletproofWWII.html< - or contact me via e-mail for an augographed copy and at a slightly lower price, and I will pay the postage. It is also available at book stores and on Amazon on an "order on demand" basis I love the memories of Parma, and pleased to include some of those memories in my book, since it is the town where I spent my entire youth prior to Joining the USAF during WWII. Best wishes to all. Bob Barney, Lt. Col USAF. Retired 13687 Cunning Lane, Lakeside, CA 92040-4405. (Lakeside is in San Diego county.)

I have not returned to Parma since the 2000 July 4 celebration. Rod Norman (who is at peace in heaven)volunteered to be my chauffeur, and drove me to various places throughout the area. The picnic was a blast! I left there in the late thirties to become a member of the United States Army Air Corp - later the United States Air Corp. I still miss the great little city which contained so many wonderful people. And I can remember long ago when they had the large concrete circular divider in the center of the main streets in town. It was most disappointing to me when they removed it. I graduated in the class of 35. The faculty consisted of Superintendent Miller, Mr. Sharp, Mr. & Mrs Paul Kinder, Mr. Bollinger, and of course my Aunt Gwen Barney (Married to my uncle Scott Barney) I would welcome hearing from any my Parma friends, or from any other Parma residents.
